Zizzo to compete in IHRA World Finals
"The truck was in the neighborhood," Zizzo chuckled. "After a Sunday team meeting we all decided to continue our testing for 2009."
"We're like a bunch of bears who don't want to go into hibernation. We know winter is PEAK Antifreeze season and with winter coming we wanted to race as much as possible to start 2009 off right."
"We're excited about being here," he continued. "I expect it to be a tough race and one that we'll have to make some adjustments to be competitive."
As many as 13 Top Fuel cars are scheduled to compete for the 8 car
field for the World Finals. "There's a lot of good cars at this event,"
Zizzo said. "After last year's Rockingham roller coaster of emotions
with a win in the Spring and losing the IHRA Championship here in the
Fall, we want to go out and make a statement by avenging last year's
disappointment."
The Zizzo Racing team has made recent performance strides in NHRA's 1,000 foot racing during the Memphis and Richmond races and hopes they can transition what they have learned back to the quarter mile circuit on the IHRA.
"Qualifying in Rockingham is going to be a lot tougher than Richmond last weekend," Zizzo said. "We've learned a lot about 1,000 foot racing that will make us much better in the future. Going back to 1,320 feet is going to be a whole new animal. I guess we'll just hang on that last 320 feet and see if our changes still work under the IHRA distance."
The 2008 IHRA World Finals will take place at Rockingham Dragway Friday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 19.
